Music in worship stirs the whole person and gives freedom to the heart to encounter the Lord. Music at CCASTA in the liturgy is to lead us to deepen our relationship with the Lord. We feature two kinds of music at CCASTA: traditional style of hymns and contemporary music. Both are done in excellence of skill and heart felt devotion to the Lord. The role of the musician is to lead the congregation to encounter the Lord. To that end, music that is traditional can be found on Saturday at the 4:00pm, 5pm, and Sundays at the 8:15am, and 10:30am Mass (at the Ascension campus). The contemporary music can be found at the St. Augustine campus: 9, 10:30 and 12:15pm. Masses.

Many thanks to you, the parishioners of CCASTA, for donations for the hymnals.

We purchased the hymnals through the publishing company called International Liturgy Publications, located at 5137 Murfreesboro Rd., College Grove, TN 37046 US.

The Company named the hymnal “St. Augustine” when it was first published in 2011. It was first available in a 1st edition and published on January 1, 2011. In 2013, ILP released the Choral Edition of the Saint Augustine Hymnal. The 2nd edition appeared in 2015. This is the edition we have purchased; and the publishing company gave us a very generous discount for purchasing this edition. I worked with this hymnal for over 6 years when I was pastor at St. Patrick’s Church in Havre De Grace. It allows us a very flexible use of many traditional Catholic hymns as well as some favorites, such as “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Be Not Afraid”. This hymnal also has some modern songs such as “This is Jesus” and “The Cup of Life Poured Out”, which can be used during the time of communion. The hymnal features songs for various liturgical settings that the Franciscan University of Steubenville has used for its summer conferences over the years. For funerals, this hymnal gives us the flexibility to have available to families’ traditional hymns and some modern songs for the Mass.

My hope is that the use of the hymnal will inspire CCASTA parishioners and our guests to “sing a new song” to the Lord as we lift our voices and minds to Him, who deserves all our praise.
